During the nationwide lockdown in 2020, small retail establishments emerged as the country's saviours. Essentials have been relied on by people from all over the world, particularly those in rural locations. Simply put, technology adoption is the successful use of innovative technologies in the workplace. Despite the fact that e-commerce has seen a boost in orders following the lockout, small merchants are giving the organised major retailers a run for their money by staying strong and embracing innovative technologies to seize the opportunity. The chapter's major goal is to discuss the acceptance and proliferation of information and communication technologies in the retail sector. It also illustrates how technological diffusion evolved over time. This chapter delves into the adoption of technology in the retail industry, with a focus on small merchants, as well as the roadmap for the segment's technological evolution and future possibilities.
