Epithelial-Like Cells Containing Leucocytes (Nurse Cells) of Human Palatine Tonsils, Uterus Cervix and Pleural Fluid: An Advancement of Research | Chapter 02 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 7

In lymphoepithelial organs, nurse cells (NCs) have been found. NCs demonstrate no phagocytic ability or cytochemical reactions for alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) or peroxidase. The researchers wanted to see if NCs could be discovered in the tonsil epithelium (group 1), vaginal epithelium (2), and pleural fluid (3), as well as see if palatine tonsil (PT) NCs could be used to diagnose leukaemia. NCs were discovered in group 1 leukaemia patients, group 2 dysplasia and cancer patients, and group 3 AIDS patients; NCs were not found in basically healthy patients (groups 1-3), cancer patients (groups 1, 3), or patients with various infections and inflammation illnesses (group 1-3). Atypical cells are NCs. The PT NCs are capable of detecting leukaemia at an early stage.
