Contemporary Concepts of Schizophrenia | Chapter 15 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol.10

Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a mental condition that hinders one's ability to reason, regulate emotions, make decisions, and communicate with others. It's a long-term medical problem. Schizophrenia can strike at any age, but it is more common in men's late teens to early twenties and women's late twenties to early thirties. SCZ is uncommon in children under the age of 12 and in those over the age of 40. With schizophrenia, it is possible to be cheerful. One of SCZ's defining characteristics is a lack of desire. Most symptoms of SCZ can be considerably reduced with therapy, as well as the risk of relapse. It's not a cure for SCZ, but it's a step in the right direction. To better understand the structure and function of the brain, experts look at genetics, behavioural studies, and modern imaging. SCZ treatment comprises medication, counselling, lifestyle changes, and social support, all of which lead to a better quality of life.
