The seasonal change of 210Po and 210Pb in the soil and sediment of the Hemavathi River Environment is discussed in this paper. The concentration of 210Po and 210Pb in the samples was evaluated using a conventional radiochemical analytical method during the pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons. In the monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons, the mean activity concentration of 210Pb in soil was determined to be 12.19 Bq kg-1 and 5.41 Bq kg-1, respectively. In monsoon and pre-monsoon, the mean activity concentration of 210Pb in sediment was determined to be 12.87 Bq kg-1 and 6.17 Bq kg-1, respectively. In soil, the average activity concentration of 210Po is 7.18 Bq kg-1. In soil and sediment, the mean activity concentration ratio between 210Po and 210Pb is 1.54 and 0.66, respectively. In comparison to the pre-monsoon, activity was strong during the monsoon. In both soil and sediment, monsoon activity was higher than pre-monsoon. Organic matter and 210Pb activity concentrations in soil and sediment were found to be highly correlated in both seasons. Increases in organic matter and clay, as well as moisture, all contributed to a rise in 210Pb activity concentration.
