Management of Varicose Veins | Chapter 17 | Emerging Trends in Disease and Health Research Vol. 3

Varicose veins (VV) are dilated, elongated, convoluted superficial veins of the leg that are a widespread concern nowadays. Obesity, prolonged immobilisation, feminine sex, trauma, genetic are all risk factors. Cramping pain, limb edoema, skin changes, and ulcer formation are all symptoms of VV. Secondary VV is caused by deep venous thrombosis (DVT), pelvic tumours, and other factors. Primary VV is produced by an inadequate valve and wall of the superficial vens of the legs. The gold standard investigation for diagnosing vv is a duplex Doppler USG. Endovenous thermal therapy (laser or radiofrequency), Foam sclerothearpy, Ligation, and stripping are among of the treatments for VVs. If VVs are caused by DVT, anticoagulants are used to treat the DVT first, then the VV. The gold standard for venous ulcer treatment is a multilayer compression dressing, however ablation of the superficial vein is required to prevent recurrence.
