A Study on “Sodiumtetradecyl Sulphate (STS) and Polidocanol (POL) to Treat Incompetent Tributaries of Superficial Veins of Legs” in Patients having Chronic Venous Insufficiency | Chapter 13 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol.10

Leg heaviness, cramping pain, edoema, skin discoloration, and ulceration are all common symptoms of varicose veins (VV). Patients may also present with clusters of varicosities caused by ineffective tributaries of the legs' superficial veins. Mini phlebectomy, hook phlebectomy, trivex, and sclerotherapy are some of the treatments for varicosities. Foam sclerotherpy is an outpatient procedure that is minimally invasive. Sodiumtetradecyl sulphate (STS), polidocanol (POL), Ethanolamine oleate, sodium morrhuate, hypertonic saline, and glycerin are examples of sclerosants. The most often utilised sclerosants are sodium tetradecyl sulphate (STS) and polidocanol (POL). Pain, thrombophlebitis, hyperpigmentation, allergy, anaphylactic shock, cutaneous necrosis, DVT, headache, vision abnormalities, and chest tightness are all side effects of these sclerosants. For the treatment of varicosities of tributaries of superficial veins of the leg, foam sclerotherapy is superior to liquid sclerosants.

Pain and hyperpigmentation at the location of varicosities are more common in the STS group, according to various research. Skin necrosis can be caused by either, but it is more common in the STS group (statistically insignificant). Polidocanol (POL) is less likely to cause complications than STS.
The purpose of this study is to examine the efficacy, complications, and adverse events of STS with POL.
