The goal of this case study is to demonstrate how a custom-made attachment on the abutment teeth was employed to increase the retention and stability of a removable partial denture. It also explains how crowns and custom-made attachments can be used to change the abutment teeth at a cheap cost.
Background: Maintaining retention in Kennedy's class I bilateral edentulism has a negative impact on the abutment teeth's periodontal health, and the retention is eventually jeopardised. Distal extension edentulism has an effect on the patient's masticatory efficiency. The lack of a sufficient number of abutments to support the prosthesis complicates the rehabilitation of a patient with long-span Kennedy's class I condition. Traditional detachable prosthesis with clasps and cantilever fixed partial prostheses are not advised in this case for the same reason.
The Kennedy class 1 modification is the subject of this case. 1 partly edentulous arch with missing 1st and 2nd molars and central incisors was rehabilitated with a low-cost custom attachment that used a die-pin and sleeve to produce a fixed prosthesis on abutment teeth and a removable prosthesis with missing teeth.
Conclusion: This treatment has the following advantages over standard RPDs: improved retention, protection of abutment health through crown repair, convenience of insertion and removal, and low cost.
Clinical Importance: When compared to semi-precision and precision attachments, the complete process requires less competence.Author(S) Details
