Determining the Role of Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio in Ascertaining the Outcomes of Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes | Chapter 16 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol.10

Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM) is a dangerous obstetric condition. The neutorphil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is intended to give light on the early PROM prediction's possible breadth. In light of this, the current study compared NLR in preterm PROM and healthy controls to determine the prognostic value of NLR and the platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR). Methods: A total of 101 pregnant women took part in this case-control research (44 pregnant women diagnosed with Preterm PROM and 55 term gestation matched healthy controls). A total blood count was one of the laboratory measures measured. PLR was measured by dividing the amount of platelets by the lymphocyte count from the same blood samples, while NLR was calculated by dividing the neutrophil count by the lymphocyte count.

All inflammatory markers, including total count, neutrophil count, NLR, and PLR ratios, were higher in the PPROM group when compared to controls. The differences in the mean levels of these parameters were statistically significant (p0.05).
Conclusion: Routinely monitoring NLR in high-risk moms during the second and early third trimesters may benefit in the early detection of PPROM and the reduction of unfavourable maternal and newborn outcomes.
