Diosgenin is a steroidal saponin found in beans and yams that has been used to cure a variety of ailments including leukaemia, inflammation, hypercholesterolemia, and cancer. It has been shown to be a gastro- and hepato-protective, anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic, and Vaso-dilatory substance in addition to being a lactation aid. It's also a starting point for the creation of steroidal hormones. As a result of this background, the focus of this chapter is on diosgenin's pharmacological properties, which clearly support its clinical therapeutic application.
