Responding to the Call: Information Systems Graduate Preparation and Job Needs | Chapter 04 | Current Research in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 3

This study looked at the viewpoints of Information Systems programme graduates from an Eastern US state on academic preparation and job skill requirements. For this study, a historical examination of the literature around information systems skill needs was undertaken in order to have a better understanding of how information systems have changed throughout the years. This historical review of the literature highlighted the reality that the industry is rapidly changing, necessitating the need for information systems professionals to change as well. The study used a descriptive research approach rather than an experimental one to allow for a descriptive interpretation of the attitudes of new IS graduates. The study's findings revealed that there is widespread agreement on the abilities required of an information systems worker. Graduates, on the other hand, are concerned about how these skills are being taught in order to produce qualified information systems professionals for the workforce.
