Study on Colonoscopic Polypectomy in Children | Chapter 10 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 5

In the paediatric age group, colonoscopic polypectomy is one of the current procedures. Juvenile polyps are diagnosed and treated using a combination of a thorough medical history, a digital rectal examination, and a colonoscopy. Hereditary, genetic, or hamartomatous abnormality can all cause juvenile polyps.

Materials and Methods: Between November 2008 and December 2010, 30 patients with recurrent rectum bleeding received digital rectal examination, colonoscopy, and polyp excision utilising snare colonoscopy.

Solitary polyps were seen in 26 of the instances. Four of the children had numerous polyps. In 14 cases, a polyp was discovered within 8 cm of the anal margin in the posterior wall (rectum). It was discovered to be greater than 8 cms in 16 children.

Conclusion: Colonoscopy is beneficial for excision of polyps and visualisation of the proximal colon for its multiplicity in all children with h/o bleeding per rectum following DRE and suitable preparation.
