Determining the Socio-Economic Characteristics of Farmers on Access to Agricultural Credit in Tripura, India | Chapter 09 | New Innovations in Economics, Business and Management Vol. 5

The current study was carried out in Tripura's West Tripura district to examine the socio-economic features of the district's borrowers. Institutional agricultural credit has played an essential role in the broad adoption of modern production technologies and the promotion of private investment in farms, thanks to its abundant and low-cost supply. The whole operational holding of a farmer, as well as the land utilisation pattern, are included in the farm structure. Cultivated land, homestead land, owned land, leased in and leased out land are all covered. A total of 120 farmers were chosen for detailed study utilising a multistage random sampling procedure. Borrowers' demographic and socioeconomic variables, such as age, gender, education level, land usage, and so on, were gathered using a survey method using pretested schedules. The majority of the state's farmers are literate, experienced, and interested in timely agricultural credit utilisation and repayment, according to the farmer's socioeconomic survey. The study's household in West Tripura District had a higher male population (51.49 percent) than female population (47.58 percent ). Cultivation was the primary occupation of 55.82 percent of the sample population, while it was the secondary occupation of 29.17 percent.
