A Case Report on Parathyroid Adenoma | Chapter 12 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 9

The endocrine disease primary hyperparathyroidism impacts calcium metabolism. Primary hyperparathyroidism is defined by high serum calcium concentrations, high parathyroid hormone concentrations, or inappropriate parathyroid hormone levels for serum calcium values. Primary hyperparathyroidism affects 2.5 out of every 1000 persons in India. Primary hyperparathyroidism can be caused by a noncancerous parathyroid adenoma, hyperplasia, or, in rare circumstances, parathyroid malignancy. The vast majority of these individuals have few or no symptoms. Clinical circumstances, biochemical and radiological investigations, and histology of the samples can all help to make a correct diagnosis. Minimally invasive parathyroidectomy has replaced traditional bilateral neck exploration as the most common surgical therapy for primary hyperparathyroidism. PTH monitoring is most useful as a complement to preoperative testing.
