Multimodal Complex Road Network and Its Traffic Organization using GIS | Chapter 05 | Technological Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 2

The discipline of engineering that deals with the planning, geometric design, and networks of these elements, as well as their links to other modes of transportation, in order to facilitate safe and easy movement of people and goods is known as traffic engineering. Traffic flow, which is defined by traffic features, determines the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Without proper planning and traffic management, the present road infrastructure will not be able to satisfy future requirements. Currently, traffic studies are being conducted in Salem. According to MORTH, several blackspots have been identified using data and plotted using GIS (Ministry Of Road Transport and Highway). Because it is a widely used tool for displaying and analysing accident data. In the transportation industry, GIS technology is frequently used. Existing road networks must be optimised, and road safety measures must be improved, and GIS can help reduce the risk of road accidents. GIS mapping users may be able to minimise unnecessary traffic and accidents. The study contributes significantly to a comprehensive picture of traffic volume and importance at major junctions.
