Cubosomes- Advanced and Potential Nanolipid Carrier| Chapter 7 | Challenges and Advances in Pharmaceutical Research Vol.3

Cubosomes are novel biocompatible and thermodynamically stable drug delivery systems with a microscopic structure that resembles "honeycombed" honeycomb with bi-continuous domains of water and lipid in which surfactant assembles into bilayers and arranged into a three-dimensional, periodic, and minimal surface, forming a tightly packed structure. Due to their unique features, cubosomes have become a popular choice of vehicle for in-vivo drug administration due to their low cost, safety, effectiveness, and adaptability for controlled release application and functionalization in the fields of cosmeceuticals and pharmaceuticals. Cubosome dispersions have a biocompatible and bioadhesive character. Cubosomes are considered adaptable systems because of their diverse features, and drug-loaded formulations of cubosomes can be administered orally, percutaneously, or parenterally. Overall, cubosomes have a lot of promise in nano-based drug formulations for cancer therapy, targeted delivery, and a variety of other applications. Cubosomes have made significant progress in terms of public awareness in the pharmaceutical business. This study discusses the preparation techniques, benefits, and numerous types of pharmaceuticals that may be included into cubosomes, as well as their uses.
