The use of adhesive bonding on composite structures necessitates the use of trustworthy design tools to precisely analyse the behaviour of the joints. The eXtended Finite Element Approach (XFEM) is a novel method for forecasting the fracture behaviour of joined' joints in this context. The purpose of this study is to use XFEM to analyse single-L adhesive connections between aluminium components and carbon-epoxy composites under peeling loads, while accounting for differences in the thickness of the L-shaped adherend (tP2) and adhesives of various ductility. The XFEM analysis employed stress or strain criteria for damage initiation, as well as numerous damage law types for fracture propagation. The results were validated by experimentation. Using the stress-based quadratic initiation criterion and the triangle propagation law, the XFEM analysis demonstrated that this approach is quite accurate.
