Controversies and Challenges in clinicopathological Profile of Primary Cutaneous Lymphomas- an Indian Perspective | Chapter 01 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 10

PCLs are a rare heterogeneous family of extra nodal non-lymphomas Hodgkin's (NHL) that develop in the skin and have no extra-cutaneous disease at the time of diagnosis. CTCLs account for 75–80 percent of all PCLs in the Western world [the most frequent kind of CTCL being mycosis fungoides (MF)], whereas CBCLs account for 20–25 percent. We studied the prevalence, clinical features, and treatment of many subtypes of PCLs in an Indian tertiary care hospital. Thirteen patients diagnosed with PCLs between 2010 and 2015 were retrospectively evaluated at our Gujarat cancer and research centre in Gujarat, India. There were nine males (69.2%) and four females (30.8%) (M:F = 2.2:1). The average age was 42 years old. The majority of patients (12, 92.3%) had cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs), whereas one patient (1, 7.7%) had cutaneous B-cell lymphomas are cancers that affect the lymphatic system (CBCLs). Mycosis fungoides (MF) was the most prevalent subtype (66.15%), followed by subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) (66.15%), and primary cutaneous B cell lymphoma (PCBCL) (66.15%). (1, 7.7 percent ). The majority of MF patients presented with early-stage illness (66.7 percent ). A larger number of CTCL patients in the middle of their lives, with a male predominance, was identified in the current study. The CTCL subtypes MF and SPTCL were the most common.
