A Book Review of Utopia Method Vision: The Use Value of Social Dreaming - The Exploration on a Time-space Utopian Model| Chapter 4 | Research Developments in Arts and Social Studies Vol. 3

This perspective situates the book Utopia Method Vision: The Use Value of Social Dreaming, edited by Tom Moylan and Raffaella Baccolini, as a critical method of sociology that contributes to a Time-Space Utopian Model. As a sociological tool, utopia has been defined as a legitimate and distinct mechanism for examining social systems and suggesting social solutions for a better future. The functions of Utopia have garnered increased attention since the year 2000. To address this issue, twelve well-known utopian academics participated in a two-year study seminar. They contributed to the book Utopia Method Vision: The Use Value of Social Dreaming with their insights on the utopian method. The temporal and location characteristics of utopia are important in making the abstract function of utopia more tangible. Several researchers have looked at utopia in the time-space dimension in the context of art engagement and utopia's mathematical boundaries, but none have looked at time-space utopia as a sociological strategy. Only one book review on Utopia Method Vision, an authoritative work in the utopian method sectors of sociology, mentions the time-space properties of utopia, much alone develops them as a systematic model. To close the gap, this research will create a Time-space utopian model by using the Bricolage approach to create space and time models. The outcomes will aid in the systematic understanding of utopia techniques in a time-space dimension, as well as the promotion of a visualised Time-Space Utopia Model as a critical sociological approach.
