Synthesis, Structural Characterization and Antimicrobial Study of 1-[(2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl)(phenyl)methyl] Urea and 1-[(2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl)(phenyl)methyl] Thiourea and Its Transition Metal (II) Complexes | Chapter 8 | Current Advances in Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 5

Mannich bases 1-[(2,5-Dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl)(phenyl)methyl] in this work. The MnII, CoII, CuII, ZnII, CdII, and HgII complexes of urea (USB) and 1-[(2,5-Dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl)(phenyl)methyl] thiourea (TSB) were produced by condensation of succinimide, benzaldehyde, and urea/thiourea. The biological actions of urea and similar substances have long been researched. To figure out their structures, scientists employed analytical, magnetic, electrical conductivity, and spectral analyses, as well as elemental research. The complexes have octahedral, tetrahedral, and tetragonally deformed octahedral geometries. The complexes are monomeric and non-electrolytic, according to magnetic susceptibility and conductance studies. Antimicrobial screening assays were successful in the presence of metal ions in the ligand system.
