Management and Control of Trichomonas vaginalis Infection: A Recent Study | Chapter 13 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 10

The etiologic agent of trichomoniasis, the world's most common non-viral sexually transmitted disease (STD), is Trichomonas vaginalis. The infection affects both female and male urogenital tracts, and humans are the parasite's only natural host. The treatment and prevention of Trichomonas vaginalis infection are well described in this chapter. For the treatment of trichomoniasis, multidose metronidazole has been demonstrated to be superior to single-dose metronidazole. The drug is well tolerated, with few side effects. The authors suggested that the first line of treatment for trichomoniasis in women should be a 7-day dose of metronidazole.
