Characteristics of Community Radio: An Entertainment Factory or Catalyst for Development, Food and Nutrition Security | Chapter 2 | Current Approaches in Science and Technology Research Vol. 4

Several studies have shown that Community Radio may help promote agriculture by educating farmers about new farming practises, offering early warnings when pests and illnesses emerge, tracking weather patterns, and advising farmers on the best planting dates. According to additional study, science and technology communication is best accomplished outside of the classroom through real-world experiences, with the media serving as a key platform for sharing such experiences. The majority of rural residents rely on CR for news and entertainment. CR, on the other hand, is much more than a manufacturer of entertainment. It has the potential to be a valuable venue for rural farmers and agricultural researchers to engage in scientific debate in order to achieve SDG #2 (Sustainable Development Goal). As a result, this paper examines how far efforts have been taken to unleash CR's potential in accomplishing the national aim of eradicating hunger, achieving food security, increasing nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture. The research will be based on survey data from a recent study on Community Radio and Food Security. According to the findings of this study, Community Radio could provide a long-term solution to the problem of rural development, particularly in terms of food and nutrition security. As Kenya moves closer to achieving its national development objective of becoming a food secure nation, the findings are expected to advise policy on the need to improve the integration of CR in delivering agricultural information to rural farmers.
