For fast trains, cab signalling is unavoidable. And the search for cab
signalling has been going on for almost a century. This chapter discusses
cost-effective and dependable wireless cab signalling.
Traditional land post
light signals operated from the station are the present mode of signalling in
Indian railways, and the light signals regulate train movement. Due to poor
vision caused by climatic circumstances [mist and heavy rain], fast blind
corners, up and downs, and blinding sunlight, it is frequently impossible to
drive the train at a steady speed, necessitating the use of brakes, which
causes discomfort and loses energy and time. We can send cab
signals to the loco pilot in real time, allowing the train service to continue
without interruption due to the above cause. I describe a way for providing cab
light signal by electromagnetic waves using typical land post light signal
control (EMW). The suggested system is a preliminary implementation of cab
signalling that is linked and merged with the existing automatic block
signalling system to improve the efficiency of the Indian railway signalling
system.
