A granular nanostructure, a pioneering series of magnetocaloric materials of a massive heat-energy exchanger in a synergic magnetoelastic transition, is shown by a ternary Ni-Mn-Sn Heusler alloy – eco-friendly energy material. A tiny amount of Cr, about 2%, successfully tunes a valence electron density of 8.090 electrons per atom and a correspondingly substantial shift in entropy. ΔSM←A = 4.428 J/kg-K (ΔSM→A = 3.695 J/kg-K in the recycle) at the martensite ¬ austenite phase transition, The Cr additive, which acts as a grain refiner, quickly tempers the tetragonality of the low temperature martensite phase with an aspect ratio of c/a = 0.903, resulting in a 10 K adiabatic temperature drop. The sample has a small ferromagnetic hysteresis loop at room temperature, with 48.9 emu/g saturation magnetization and 82.1 Oe coercivity, which is suitable for home applications.
