 Background: The precise mechanisms of celiac disease (CD)-related neuropsychiatric involvement are unknown. Various methods have been proposed. Gluten toxicity, and thus hyperhomocysteinemia (hyperHcy), may be the most suspect initiating risk factor in the pathogenesis of CD's neuropsychiatric manifestations.

Methods: All published data on the relationship between hyperHcy, CD, and neuropsychiatric manifestations was searched in PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, and Google Scholar.
