Analysis of Amino Acids Levels of Freeze-dried Termite Queen Macrotermes gilvus Hagen: An Advanced Study | Chapter 9 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 7

Termites (Macrotermes gilvus Hagen) are social insects that live in colonies of workers, soldiers, winged adults, a queen, and a king. The amino acid content of termite queens was investigated.

To assess the nutritional composition of part reproductive termites, amino acid analyses were performed. The queen termites were found in an Indonesian palm plantation in Taluak Kuantan, Riau. They were taken out of their nests and freeze-dried into a fine powder. Ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography was used to evaluate the amino acids (UPLC).

The critical amino acid was found in the crude protein of freeze-dried termite queens. The amino acid lysine had the highest concentration, while tryptophan had the lowest.

Conclusion: Nutrient-rich termites were the queens of termites, supplying sufficient amounts of different amino acids for medicinal nutrients. Termites are a good source of protein and amino acids, according to the research.
