A Literature Review of Prone Position in Non-intubated Patients with COVID-19 as a Useful Maneuver to Avoid Mechanical Ventilation | Chapter 10 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 11

 Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a wide variety of symptoms, from asymptomatic to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The prone position is commonly used in ARDS patients on mechanical ventilation, and its benefits have been identified. The prone position in an awake patient differs from the prone position in a patient who is receiving intrusive mechanical ventilation. With COVID-19, this manoeuvre can be extrapolated to non-intubated patients, allowing some patients to prevent mechanical ventilation. The advantages of this action have been shown in previous studies.
