The Assessment of Perception and Effect of Helicopter Noise in Mgbuoshimini Community, Rivers State, Nigeria| Chapter 2 | Research Developments in Science and Technology Vol. 2

The study looked at how helicopter noise is perceived and how it affects people in Mgbuoshimini, Nigeria. A community sociological survey was undertaken to see if there is a link between helicopter noise and health, irritation, daytime napping, night sleep, speech interference, and students' focus on the one hand, and on the other side. The sample size was computed using Taro Yamane's methodology, which had a 98 percent accuracy rate, and 2500 questionnaires were dispersed by stratified random sampling. Only 1862 questionnaires were returned, though (representing a 74.5 percent response rate). According to the findings of the study, helicopter flyover noise has a range of negative health consequences on inhabitants of Mgbuoshimini Community, including irritation, day sleep disturbance, speech interference, and students' attention. This also suggests that respondents may be unaware of potential health risks linked with airport noise. As a consequence, the research recommends that the Nigerian Orientation Agency or other relevant government agencies inform and educate Mgbuoshimini Community inhabitants about the health implications of helicopter noise.
