The Use of Medicinal Herbs in Aquaculture Industry: A Review | Chapter 02 | Current Aspects in Pharmaceutical Research and Development Vol. 7

Aquaculture-produced fish will continue to be a cornerstone in satisfying human animal protein requirements. The aquaculture sector faces a number of global challenges. From environmental degradation, water pollution, agricultural land conversion, and aquaculture, to disease attacks and the usage of medicines to treat fish pests and diseases, the list goes on. Antibiotics and pesticides are no longer acceptable ingredients in food. As a result, an environmentally friendly solution to this disease, as well as water disruption and pollution, is required. A viable idea is to use natural chemicals in the form of medicinal plants to boost fish immunity and treat viral illnesses. Because water and environmental contamination are becoming more common, using plants in the bioremediation process is the best option. This study includes an overview of research on the usage of several plant species for the purposes of improving fish immunity, enhancing antimicrobial activity, replacing the role of antibiotics, improving fish development, improving feed conversion, and improving the water quality of contaminated waters.
