Molecular Characterization of Propionibacterium acnes Isolated from Acne vulgaris | Chapter 02 | Innovations in Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 3

The most prevalent member of the Anaerobic or Microaerophilic coryneform organisms found on the skin is Propionibacterium acnes. The goal of this work was to isolate Propionibacterium acnes, the acne-causing bacteria, and characterise it using culture characteristics, biochemical testing, GC FAME (Gas Chromatography- Fatty Acid Methyl Esters) analysis, and 16 S r RNA sequencing.

The results were compared to those obtained from IMTECH in Chandigarh, India, as standard organisms. The organism's FAME analysis report matches the genotyping of the isolate, and the organism is recognised as Propionibacterium acnes.

The goal of this study was to identify an acne-causing bacterium utilising several mediums. To identify the organism using traditional approaches such as cultural characterisation and molecular analysis.
