A Suggestion for a Relevant Conceptual Basis in Biophysics | Chapter 6 | Research Trends and Challenges in Physical Science Vol. 6

For the time being, biological processes are characterised using thermodynamics, mechanics, dynamic systems theory, and other theoretical equipment. A proposal to broaden the theoretical foundation of biophysics by adding new measurable variables and regularities is discussed here. It is proposed a new conceptual basis for describing living objects in their whole and overall reaction. If the physiological status of an organism could be measured quickly and easily, biology and medicine would benefit. This may be possible if new appropriate variables for describing the entire biological creature are introduced. This method could aid in determining the organism's overall response to various stimuli and disruptions. Three basic quantities are proposed here: vitality, biological energy, and synergy. These values are thought to be essential phenomenological features of a biological item. Synergy is thought to be a metric for the quality of biological self-regulation. The organism's synergy rises as it develops and grows. A biological principle is proposed for maximal synergy in an undisturbed condition of the organism. The recovery process of an organism after a shock is described by an equation. The effect of different variables on the synergy of possible outcomes is addressed. A new science subject could emerge from the new technique, new variables, and laws. This paper has the potential to spark scientific thought and lead to more investigation.
