Phytochemicals, Antioxidant Activity and characterization Studies in the Plant Extracts of Angiopteris evecta (G. Forst.) Hoffm. (Marattiaceae) from Western Ghats | Chapter 5 | Cutting Edge Research in Biology Vol. 7

In the study, phytochemical constituents and antioxidant action of extracts from the Oriental vessel scrappy bushes, Angiopteris evecta (G. Forst.) Hoffm., was examined by various in-vitro procedures. The fronds of A. evecta were collected all along the month of November 2020. The sample was shade drained and grated. The powdered sample was gleaned with ethyl acetate, flammable liquid, and water according to the standard contract. Preliminary phytochemical analysis revealed the closeness of terpenoids, tannins, steroids, reducing sugars, saponins and cardiac glycosides in the extracts. The antioxidant project was evaluated apiece guess of total phenolic content and radical scavenging activity. Folin-Ciocalteau (FC) form was used to determine the total phenolic content present in the extracts of A. evecta utilizing Gallic acid as standard. The methanol extract of leaves written chief total phenolic content of 285.2 µg GAE/g followed apiece aqueous extract (263.87 µg GAE/g). 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) procedure was employed to measure the radical scavenging potentials. High radical scavenging project was discovered in the ethyl acetate extract (IC50= 88.23 µg/mL).  Further, the leaf extracts was subjected to Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (LC-MS) that detected and habitual the presence of saponin parts in the way that Solasurine, Khasianine, Neohecogenin, Alliospiroside C and Maslinic acid. This investigation for the first occasion describes the description of saponin components from the leaf ethyl acetate solid by LC-MS.
