Peripheral Neurocytoma Arising from an Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma in a Pediatric Patient: Case Report and Literature Review of Published Cases | Chapter 10 | Research Developments in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 7

A neurocytoma is a neuronally-changed low-grade cyst most commonly in the direction of young or middle-aged women. Peripheral neurocytoma arising inside mature cystic ovarian teratoma is an extremely exceptional clinical system with only few written reports to date. We present a case of a neurocytoma arising within a mature cystic ovarian teratoma in a 16-period- old female. Microscopic test identified a mature cystic teratoma apart from a 0.5cm diameter neuroepithelial cyst with neuronal distinction. The Ki-67 proliferative index was <1%. Immunohistochemistry was positive for synaptophysin and neurofilament and negative for OLIG2 and glial fibrillary sour protein. Based on these findings, the bulk was classified as neurocytoma emergent within a mature cystic teratoma.
