Familial Trends in Left Handedness | Chapter 15 | Research Developments in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 7

Handedness is viewed as continuum ranging from forceful right handedness across mixed handedness to powerful left handedness. Left handedness affects only 8-15% of the human populace, and the exact cause is unknown. Therefore, the study was planned on left-handed issues with the aim to trace the ancestral correlation of their handedness to find out hereditary basis, if some, for left handedness. Present study is a trace back study which was administered on 30 left-handed cases (primary Subjects) and their family appendages (secondary matters).Handedness was evaluated based on tests suggested by Raczkowski. Frank Left handedness was raise to be running among 50% (15/30) of the offspring. In 16.7% families abandoned handedness could be traced back to 2-3 more creation. In familial disposal, left, ambidextrous or compulsory right handedness was more prevalent in founders (p = 0.05). Inheritance is more prevalent in families accompanying affected parent as well as father. The conclusion is that abandoned-handedness has a strong inherited correlation and that bequest is more common in classifications with left-handed persons. It also compares with maternal abandoned handedness, and while inheritance is X-connected, the pattern of inheritance is autosomal.
