Although China's coastal tourism business has grown rapidly in recent years, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on coastal tourism-related economic activities has been severe since early 2020. The evolution of China's coastline tourism business from 2014 to 2020 is examined in this research. According to government data, the overall output value of China's coastal tourism economy expanded from RMB 888.2 billion in 2014 to RMB 1,808.6 billion in 2019, accounting for almost 20% of the gross marine product and 50% of the major marine industry. Due to the impact of the pandemic, China's coastal tourism business had an added value of RMB 1,392.4 billion at the end of 2020, accounting for about 17% of the gross marine product or 47% of the primary marine industry, a decline of 416.2 billion yuan or 23.01 percent year on year. The ramifications for China's coastline tourism economy's long-term viability are discussed.
