Study on Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Activity of Binuclear Chromium (II) Complexes of New Schiff Base Ligand Derived from Amino Acids | Chapter 01 | Current Topics on Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 1

Understanding the coordination chemistry of these amino acids with metals can help us understand the coordination chemistry of proteins in general. Metal ions are required by many proteins in the body, and they are used to activate or deactivate them. The elemental analysis, IR, 1H, 13C NMR, mass and electronic spectroscopy, magnetic and conductance measurements were used to describe eight chromium(II) complexes of type [Cr(L)(H2O)x]xH2O (where L= Schiff base ligand). The Schiff base ligand of amino acids functioned like an octa dentate ligand. The antibacterial activity of the chromium(II) complexes, which displayed moderate to good activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, was also determined. By evaluating elemental and spectral data, octahedral structures for chromium (II) complexes with amino Schiff base ligands were given to these complexes.
