Using an isocratic 100 percent water mobile phase, this chapter describes a safe HPLC approach for identifying acetamiprid (ATP) and its metabolite, IM-2-1 (IM2). Water as the mobile phase and a photodiode-array detector were used in chromatographic separations using an Inertsil® WP300 C4 (PDA). The whole run time was about 7 minutes, with ATP and IM2 retention times of 5.75 and 6.49 minutes, respectively. The linearity and system appropriateness were both well within the accepted international standards. The detection limits for ATP and IM2 were 0.013 g/mL and 0.006 g/mL, respectively. A safe HPLC method for measuring ATP and IM2 concurrently was developed, and it could be used to quantify animal-derived diets in the future.
