Positive Impacts of Olive Oil Enriched with Lycopene on the Plasma Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Status of Hypercholesterolemic Patients | Chapter 2 | Disease and Health: Research Developments Vol. 10

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that is responsible for several cardiovascular events such as ischemic heart disease, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and ischemic stroke. Olive oil and lycopene are foods that have potent antioxidant activity. The objective was to determine the effects of consumption of olive oil enriched with lycopene on oxidative stress biomarkers in hypercholesterolemic subjects. The study product sample “lycopene-olive oil” consisted of virgin olive oil enriched with lycopene (350 mg/L). Patients (n = 80) were recruited from the town of Moralzarzal, Madrid, Spain, including healthy men and women with cholesterol levels over 220 mg/dL. The effects of oil enriched with lycopene extract daily intake were examined for 1 month on plasma antioxidant capacity, lipid profile (triacylglycerols, total cholesterol, HDL-C; LDL-C, ox-LDL), biomarkers of oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers related to atherosclerosis risk (C-reactive protein (CRP), IL-6; sDC4L) in subjects with hypercholesterolemia (cholesterol > 220 mg/dL). In the group consuming olive oil-lycopene, significant increases (p < 0.05) in the levels of plasma lycopene concentration (0.146 ± 0.03 versus 0.202 ± 0.04 (µmol/L)), α-carotene (0.166 ± 0.064 versus 0.238 ± 0.07) and β-carotene (0.493 ± 0.187 versus 0.713 ± 0.221) were observed. These results are linked with the increases of plasma antioxidants and decrease in biomarkers of oxidative stress (carbonyl groups, malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine) observed in the hypercholesterolemic group. In relation to the lipid profile, a significant decrease was observed in the levels of ox-LDL (781 ± 302 versus 494 ± 200), remaining unchanged in the levels of TG, cholesterol, HDL and LDL-C. Regarding inflammatory biomarkers, the levels of CRP and IL-6 decreased significantly. The positive results obtained in this study support the use of olive oil enriched with lycopene to reduce the risk of coronary disease. The results also indicate that triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL, and HDL levels did not change significantly. However, ox-LDL levels decreased significantly only in the group supplemented with lycopene-olive oil. In conclusion, this study suggests that foods containing olive oil and lycopene can significantly contribute to reducing LDL-induced oxidative stress.

Synthesis and Biological Applications of Ferrocenyl Amino Acids, Sugar and Nucleic Acids Derivatives | Chapter 1 | Advancements in Science and Technology: Paving the Way to a Sustainable Future

Ferrocene, known for its aromaticity, relative lipophilicity, and stable redox properties, has been widely explored in functional molecules due to its unique chemical characteristics. Despite being an organometallic compound, ferrocene and some derivatives maintain stability in aqueous and aerobic environments. Its industrial applications span diverse fields such as petroleum, plastics, textiles, metallurgy, and catalysis. Medicinally, ferrocene and its derivatives demonstrate cytotoxic, antitumor, antimalarial, and antianemic properties, making ferrocene-conjugated biomolecules particularly promising. One approach to enhance ferrocene’s water solubility and biocompatibility is through covalent attachment to biomolecules like amino acids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. These conjugates exhibit significant structural, electrochemical, and biological properties. This chapter reviews recent advancements in the synthesis of ferrocene-conjugated carbohydrates and amino acids, focusing on methods such as thio-alkylation, click chemistry, and amide linkage formation. Overall, the chemical versatility and bioactivity of ferrocene derivatives highlight their potential for future applications in medicinal and material science.

Some Characteristics of Kars Gruyere Cheese, One of Turkey's Local Cheeses | Chapter 6 | Research Perspectives of Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 2

There are many types of cheese produced locally and offered for sale in Turkey. Among these cheeses, Kars Gruyere cheese has an important place. Gruyere cheese, which is one of the few European-type cheese types produced in Turkey, has an economic value and is appreciated by consumers; Differs greatly from other cheese types because it is full-fat and has a very different aroma. Kars Gruyere cheese is a very high fat, ripe, nutritious and unique cheese type in terms of its preparation. Gruyere cheese produced in Kars province is a dairy product rich in animal protein, which our people lack to a great extent, and it is more valuable than many animal foods with an average of 32.22% protein. In this review, information is given about the chemical, microbiological and physicochemical properties of Kars Gruyere cheese, which is produced by traditional methods in dairies.

Sonography of the Hepatic Spans and Their Correlation to Dyslipidaemia in a Nigerian Population | Chapter 2 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 1

The sample analysis for this investigation was performed in the private laboratory of the HMG Hospital in Rivers State, which is part of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. Technological developments such as solid state circuitry, real time imaging, colour and power Doppler, transvaginal sonography and 3/4D imaging have been seized by clinical researchers to enhance the investigation and management of patients in areas as diverse as assessment of fetal growth and wellbeing, screening for fetal anomalies, prediction of pre-eclampsia and preterm birth, detection of ectopic gestation, evaluation of pelvic masses, screening for ovarian cancer and fertility management. A random sampling technique was employed to select the respondents, while the Taro-Yamene formula was used to calculate the sample size and data analyzed with SPSS version 20. The respondents were mainly aged 30 - 39 years, 12 (40.00%), mainly females, 20 (66.67%) and obese, 16 (53.33%). They were also mainly Christians, 25 (83.33%), of Ijaw descent 20 (66.67%) and civil/public servants, 13 (43.33%). The total cholesterol was the highest, 18 (60.00%), normal for triglyceride, 24 (80.00%), low for high density lipoprotein cholesterol, 22 (73.33%) and high for low density lipoprotein cholesterol, 14 (46.67%). Maximum liver span was statistically significant to triglyceride concentration; p-value (0.001) but not for total cholesterol; p-value (0.084), high density lipoprotein cholesterol; p-value (0.477) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol; p-value (0.317). Hepatic span is a predictive tool for the probable diagnosis of dyslipidaemia.

A Study on Ten-Year Risk Assessment of Cardiovascular Events among Adults Visiting a Tertiary Care Institution, Farrukhabad, India | Chapter 6 | Novel Research Aspects in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 8

The Influence of High-Concentration Hydrogen-Rich Water for 24-Week on Body Composition, Blood Lipid Profiles, and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Men and Women with Metabolic Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Trial | Chapter 1 | Current Topics on Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 4

 

 The epidemic of metabolic syndrome has spread to every country. Obesity, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia are linked to it. It has been demonstrated that molecular hydrogen (H2) lowers oxidative stress, enhances cellular performance, and lowers chronic inflammation. Although H2-rich water (HRW) has been demonstrated in pre-clinical and clinical research to have positive effects on some aspects of the metabolic syndrome, it is unknown how long-term, high-concentration HRW would affect metabolic syndrome. 60 individuals with metabolic syndrome took part in a randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled  Following a one-week initial observation period during which baseline clinical data were collected, participants were randomly assigned to receive either a placebo or high-concentration HRW (> 5.5 millimoles of H2 per day) for 24 weeks. In comparison to placebo, high-concentration HRW supplementation substantially decreased blood cholesterol and glucose levels, attenuated serum haemoglobin A1c, and enhanced inflammatory and redox homeostasis indicators (P 0.05). These findings support earlier research showing high-concentration HRW may have therapeutic effects in reducing risk factors for metabolic syndrome and its associated complications.

Large-scale farmers in India are already making money from sunflower fields. The oil used was sunflower oil rather than mustard oil. Cooking oil that is healthy is highly praised. Everyone is becoming more worried about human health as a result of media awareness (television and newspapers). Regular health exams are expected in MNC culture. People today are concerned about their health. You'll note that sunflower oil now predominates over mustard oil even in wayside inns. Sunflower oil without PUFAs is commonly accepted in modern society. The health of older people (those over 60) is seriously at risk due to heart disease brought on by fat molecule buildup in arteries.

After a one-week observation phase to obtain baseline clinical data, participants were randomly assigned to either placebo or high-concentration HRW (> 5.5 millimoles of H2 per day) over a 24-week period. Supplementing your diet  In comparison to placebo, high-concentration HRW lowered blood cholesterol and glucose levels, decreased serum haemoglobin A1c, and enhanced indicators of inflammation and redox homeostasis (P 0.05). Furthermore, H2 caused a small decrease in BMI and waist-to-hip ratio. Our data support the notion that high-concentration HRW might be a useful therapy for lowering metabolic syndrome risk variables.

Study on the Effect of β-Cyclodextrin on Phospholipids and Cholesterol of the Milk Fat Globule Membrane | Chapter 12 | Emerging Challenges in Agriculture and Food Science Vol. 4

 Phospholipids, like cholesterol, are found on the milk globule membrane (MFGM). The goal of this study was to see how -cyclodextrin (β-CD) affected phospholipids and cholesterol in raw pasteurised milk, in order to remove cholesterol from the milk fat. Total phospholipids in β-CD treated milk reduced marginally, but the effect of the β-CD was not significant. β-CD is a highly effective oligosaccharide for eliminating cholesterol from milk, with a reduction of more than 97%, and has no effect on individual phospholipids in the milk fat globule membrane (phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, sphingomyelin, phosphatidylinositol, and phosphatidylserina).

Probiotics' Role in Human Disease | Chapter 07 | Emerging Trends in Disease and Health Research Vol. 2

 It is clear that probiotics play a role in preventing or treating a variety of health problems, ranging from nutritional deficiencies to medical conditions throughout the body such as gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, and certain types of cancer. Additionally, some probiotics have benefits for healthy people, such as lowering the risk of common infectious diseases. Many probiotics have showed promise in the treatment of certain clinical disorders when abnormal microbiota have been identified. However, regulations for the use of probiotics must be established, and more study must be conducted to determine the strains and proper amount for each treatment, as well as to discover the long-term benefits and influence of probiotics when used in conjunction with drug-based treatment. The goal of this revision is to recognise the importance of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of various health disorders by compiling and comparing various research works on the topic published in recent years.

Determining the Effect of a Care Bundle for Hypertension Control on the Health Outcomes of Hypertensive Patients with Stroke Risk | Chapter 11 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 15

 Background: Care bundles are made up of three to five evidence-based practises that must be given in a coordinated and consistent manner to improve patient health outcomes. The goal of this study was to determine the amount of stroke risk in hypertensive patients, evaluate the efficacy of a hypertension management care bundle on health outcomes in hypertensive patients with stroke risk, and identify parameters associated with the effect of care bundles on hypertensive patients. In this work, a quasi-experimental research design was adopted. The research was carried out in medical outpatient clinics of government and health insurance facilities in Port Said. A purposive sample of 105 patients was included in the study. Instruments: A structured interview was used to assess the socio-demographic characteristics and medical histories of patients, a stroke risk assessment screening tool was used to determine stroke risk among hypertensive patients, and clinical measures such as pulse, blood pressure, BMI, serum cholesterol, and fasting blood sugar were used to collect data. Results: The study found significant differences in clinical measures such as systolic blood pressure, cholesterol level, body mass index, and fasting blood sugar between hypertensive patients pre- and three months post-patient education with the care bundle for hypertension control, with P-values of 0.000, 0.000, and 0.002, respectively, between hypertensive patients pre- and three months post-patient education with the care bundle for hypertension control. Nearly two-thirds of hypertension individuals in the study group, on the other hand, were at intermediate risk of stroke, while the rest were at severe risk. Conclusion: The current study found that providing hypertensive stroke patients with a care package for hypertension control could enhance their clinical parameters significantly. The care bundle consists of a collection of interconnected evidence-based guidelines, with one guideline influencing another, such as proper foods for hypertension patients resulting in weight loss and increased physical activity. However, more research on a larger sample of hypertensive patients, both with and without a risk of stroke, is needed.

The Role of Central Obesity in the Pathophysiology of Metabolic Syndrome | Chapter 21 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 10

 Obesity (usually central), hypertension, dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance, prothrombotic condition, and inflammation are all part of the Metabolic Syndrome. MetS has been linked to the development of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Jean Vague linked the presence of male type (android form) adiposity to the development of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular illnesses, which are all major factors in the MetS, in the 1940s and early 1950s. The National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATPIII), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Diabetes Federation all use different criteria to establish MetS. (IDF). In these classifications, central obesity is a key component of MetS. This is largely owing to the adipocyte's pivotal involvement in the syndrome's development. The contents of this article were derived from a comprehensive internet search of relevant literature, and it attempts to review the pathophysiological significance of central obesity in the development of the metabolic syndrome's components. We advocate for early diagnosis of central obesity by basic methods such as measuring the waist circumference with a measuring tape.

The True Cause of Coronary Artery Disease; Cholesterol is Irrelevant | Chapter 10 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 4

 This report is a compilation of 22 studies that concludes that free radical damage to tumour suppressor genes causes coronary artery disease. This mutation allows cells to proliferate out of control, resulting in benign mini tumours between the endothelium lining and the smooth muscle walls of arteries. These tumours generate microscopic tears in the endothelium, which are patched with interlacing fibrin filaments as they expand. Minerals (particularly calcium), heavy metals, macrophages, and cellular detritus are trapped in this tough scar tissue. The last smooth layer of cholesterol that coats this vascular plaque has little bearing on its progression. According to current national cholesterol standards, over 75 percent of patients hospitalised for a heart attack had cholesterol levels that indicated they were not at high risk for a cardiovascular event. As a result, there is no link between cholesterol levels in the blood and coronary artery disease.

The Nutritional Bypass: Restore Circulation without Surgery | Book Publisher International

 Heart disease is the leading cause of mortality in the United States, killing 655,000 people each year. Heart disease is responsible for one out of every four deaths. Every 36 seconds, one person dies as a result of this. It doesn't have to be this this. Heart attacks, strokes, and diabetic gangrene are all caused by atherosclerosis, the gradual narrowing of arteries that causes heart attacks, strokes, and diabetic gangrene. Effect of β-Cyclodextrin on Cholesterol Reduction in Egg and Duck Liver Pâté | Chapter 11 | Current Research in Agricultural and Food Science Vol. 5

 Because of its affinity for non-polar molecules like cholesterol, the use of -cyclodextrin (-CD) to lower cholesterol is becoming more common in food research. The goal of this study was to see if -CD could remove cholesterol from natural egg, powdered egg, and duck liver pâté, as well as what effect it had on particular fatty acids. A concentration of 5% -CD was shown to be enough for removing 80.04 4.96–82.12 5.36 percent cholesterol from yolks and powdered eggs, as well as 80.21 5.28 percent cholesterol from duck liver pâté. Centrifugation was used to separate the -CD complexed to cholesterol. Individual fatty acid compositions did not differ significantly (p 0.05) between controls and products treated with 5%-CD. This research can be used to design low-cholesterol functional diets for hypercholesterolemia patients.
