An Analysis of May Month (2017-2019) Blood Pressure Screenings in Niger: A Case Study | Chapter 6 | Medicine and Medical Research: New Perspectives Vol. 7

 

In 2007, the prevalence of high blood pressure (BP) was 36% in Niger according to a recent survey by the World Health Organization (WHO). Niger got involved in the May Measurement Month (MMM) campaign in 2017, 2018, and 2019 to gain an understanding of the prevalence of selected cardiovascular risk factors and high BP. The aim of this study was to screen for cardiovascular risk factors with particular focus on high blood pressure (BP) in Niger and thereby to raise awareness among the population of Niger about raised BP and the associated risk to health. The city of Niamey served as our study location during the month of May in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Volunteer adults aged ≥18 years, who completed a pre-established questionnaire were screened and had three sitting BP measurements taken. Hypertension was defined as a systolic BP ≥140 mmHg or diastolic BP ≥90 mmHg (based on the mean of the second and third BP readings) or being on antihypertensive medication. In this study, 2297 adults were screened, of which 42.9% were women and 57.1% were men. Of the 2297 screened, 33.2% were found to be hypertensive of whom only 26 (3.4%) were recorded as being on treatment. Approximately 30% of those screened were found to be obese or overweight. The MMM campaign in Niger highlights a large number of people with hypertension can be screened opportunistically. In the absence of systematic and population-based screening, the MMM campaign should be continued annually in order to raise awareness of raised BP and its complications among the population. High BP is a real public health danger, and this study finds alarming figures that highlight the need for improved policies for screening and management of hypertension. Raising awareness and improving the detection of hypertension remain essential to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis Across Species: A Fatal Hereditary Neurodegenerative Disease | Chapter 3 | An Overview of Disease and Health Research Vol. 1

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a rare, fatal inherited lysosomal storage disease characterised by progressive neurodegeneration and intracellular accumulation of autofluorescent lipopigment in neurons and other body cells. It is caused by pathogenic mutations of genes. Currently there are 14 forms of NCL designated as CLN1, CLN2, CLN3, CLN4, CLN5, CLN6, CLN7, CLN8, CLN9, CLN10, CLN11, CLN12, CLN13, and CLN14. Defects in different genes are the basis of the various forms of NCL. This chapter provides a review of the current knowledge on NCL, particularly the aetiology, transmission, epidemiology, predisposing factors, clinical signs, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, control, and treatment of the disease. It also outlines some challenges or gaps in current NCL research, discusses the significance of research findings in the broader context of neurodegenerative diseases, and recommends the way forward towards control of NCL.

A Brief Overview on Dynamic Model of Grid-connected PV System | Chapter 9 | Theory and Applications of Engineering Research Vol. 9

 This study establishes a Dynamic model of grid-connected PV system by MATLAB/Simulink with d-and q-axis as coordinates which is synchronously rotating with the grid voltage to reflect the characteristics of the system accurately. Solar energy has emerged as one of the most promising new energy sources; it doesn't require large, lossy batteries when used in conjunction with grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. Reduced transmission and distribution losses and less environmental contamination are achieved by distributed generation and on-site PV system supply.  Based on the accurate modelling system, optimum control and fault analysis are studied. The simulation and analysis verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, and demonstrate that the proposed control system has good static performance. Simulation and analysis results show that the model can correctly reflect the system characteristics and the methods can meet the actual needs.

Immunity against Tuberculosis Infection | Chapter 7 | Research Advances in Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 4

Greenhouse Humidity Prediction and Control Models by Using Fuzzy Inference Systems | Chapter 06 | Research Developments in Science and Technology Vol. 6

 Greenhouse horticulture is a popular method for growing high-value crops with a large profit margin. To enable excellent management of environmental elements, fuzzy inference systems have been successfully used in prediction and control models. The goal of this research is to discover the many relationships in fuzzy inference systems now used for greenhouse modelling, prediction, and humidity management, as well as their change through time, in order to design more robust and understandable models. The major goal is to apply optimization techniques to find distinct linkages inside fuzzy inference systems, their configurations, and models, which are currently used for greenhouse forecast, control, and humidity modelling. The procedure is based on the PRISMA working guide. Four academic databases were combed through for a total of 93 questionnaires. Its bibliometric features have been retrieved and analysed, which helps the survey achieve its goal. Finally, it was discovered that combining Mamdani's fuzzy inference systems with optimization and fuzzy clustering methodologies, as well as tactics like model-based predictive control, assures great accuracy and interpretability.

Implementation of a New Scaled Fuzzy Method Using PSO Segmentation (SePSO) Applied for Two Area Power System | Chapter 9 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol.7

 The balance of supply and demand is one of the oldest approaches for power systems, which is considered a very complicated system (frequency control). Power system frequency response is an excellent indicator of multi-disturbance resilience. In this study, the fuzzy logic was scaled using PSO segmentation (SePSO), which is recommended for achieving high frequency stability. PSO has engaged in multisegments for computing scald-fuzzy membership using fundamental criteria. Two identical interconnected power zones were chosen to test the unique scaled fuzzy technique. The efficiency of the controller responsiveness has been tested using the MATLAB Simulink time response. In various time schedules and disturbance levels, the investigation's findings reveal that the suggested SePSO optimization for control is significantly faster and has a lower undershot than classical controllers. Because of its simplicity, traditional controllers have been employed in a variety of power system operation and control subjects.

Determining the Effect of a Care Bundle for Hypertension Control on the Health Outcomes of Hypertensive Patients with Stroke Risk | Chapter 11 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 15

 Background: Care bundles are made up of three to five evidence-based practises that must be given in a coordinated and consistent manner to improve patient health outcomes. The goal of this study was to determine the amount of stroke risk in hypertensive patients, evaluate the efficacy of a hypertension management care bundle on health outcomes in hypertensive patients with stroke risk, and identify parameters associated with the effect of care bundles on hypertensive patients. In this work, a quasi-experimental research design was adopted. The research was carried out in medical outpatient clinics of government and health insurance facilities in Port Said. A purposive sample of 105 patients was included in the study. Instruments: A structured interview was used to assess the socio-demographic characteristics and medical histories of patients, a stroke risk assessment screening tool was used to determine stroke risk among hypertensive patients, and clinical measures such as pulse, blood pressure, BMI, serum cholesterol, and fasting blood sugar were used to collect data. Results: The study found significant differences in clinical measures such as systolic blood pressure, cholesterol level, body mass index, and fasting blood sugar between hypertensive patients pre- and three months post-patient education with the care bundle for hypertension control, with P-values of 0.000, 0.000, and 0.002, respectively, between hypertensive patients pre- and three months post-patient education with the care bundle for hypertension control. Nearly two-thirds of hypertension individuals in the study group, on the other hand, were at intermediate risk of stroke, while the rest were at severe risk. Conclusion: The current study found that providing hypertensive stroke patients with a care package for hypertension control could enhance their clinical parameters significantly. The care bundle consists of a collection of interconnected evidence-based guidelines, with one guideline influencing another, such as proper foods for hypertension patients resulting in weight loss and increased physical activity. However, more research on a larger sample of hypertensive patients, both with and without a risk of stroke, is needed.

Noise Pollution Monitoring, Mapping and Health Impacts | Book Publisher International

Noise pollution has established itself as a high-ranking pollutant all across the world. Noise pollution has increased as a result of industrialisation, increased transportation, and other human activities. Noise pollution poses a serious threat to developing countries. People in India are less aware of noise pollution than they are of water and then air pollution. It has a poisonous effect on human health. Its effects on the population are mostly obvious after a long period of exposure. However, as compared to water and air pollution, the decay time of noise in the environment is quite short. The introduction to sound, noise and its monitoring techniques, human impact, and noise pollution control are all summarised in this book. The major goal is to raise public awareness about noise pollution and its harmful effects on those who are exposed to it. Many governments have revised noise regulations in attempt to reduce noise pollution, however these regulations are rarely enforced due to a lack of public knowledge. Chapter 1 outlined the various properties of sound, as well as their thorough definitions. As a result, in the next chapter, the characteristics of noise, as well as their sources of origination, are described so that people can learn about the causes of noise in the environment. In the third chapter, the measurement techniques and instruments needed for the research of noise pollution are also discussed in detail. In order to comprehend the influence on the environment, multiple noise rating systems and norms as set forth by various pollution boards have been provided. The impact of noise pollution on human health is discussed in Chapter 4. Finally, in the concluding chapter, the control of noise pollution at sources and by equipment has been summarised. This book provides a brief overview of noise pollution, including its properties, effects on humans, and mitigation measures. This is useful in raising public awareness of the excessive level of noise pollution in the environment.

Determination of Antifungal and Anti-Aflatoxigenic Activity of the Essential Oil of Lippia lasiocalycina Cham (Verbenacea) | Chapter 3 | Current Aspects in Pharmaceutical Research and Development Vol. 2

 Food contamination by aflatoxin-producing fungus species results in significant financial losses and has a direct impact on consumer health. The hunt for more natural preservation methods has piqued interest in the antifungal properties of essential oils. The goal of this study was to see if Lippia lasiocalycina essential oil might reduce fungal growth and aflatoxin B1 generation in Aspergillus flavus strains. A strain of Aspergillus flavus was used to evaluate the minimum inhibitory concentration of L. lasiocalycina essential oil. Direct contact and the action of volatile chemicals were used to investigate the potential for inhibiting fungal growth and aflatoxin B1 generation. HPLC was used to determine the amount of aflatoxin produced. By direct contact, L. lasiocalycina essential oil prevented 94 percent of Aspergillus flavus growth, and the volatile components enhanced aflatoxin B1 synthesis. The essential oil of Lippia lasiocalycina has been shown to be useful in the manufacture of aflatoxin B1, which is sold as a standard for scientific research.

Leptospirosis in Pigs: A Silent Economic Drawback in Piggery Industry | Chapter 2 | Research Aspects in Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences Vol. 1

 The epidemiology of Leptospirosis in pigs is discussed in this chapter. Leptospirosis is a zoonotic illness spread over the world caused by the genus Leptospira. The disease is endemic to tropical areas and affects both wild and domestic animals, as well as humans. Pigs from intensively confined, free-range, and feral environments can become infected if they come into direct or indirect contact with infected reservoir host animal urine. Leptospirosis in pigs manifests itself in a variety of ways, ranging from asymptomatic to chronic, depending on the infecting serovar and the age of the animals. Pig productivity loss is linked to chronic manifestations such as placentitis, abortions, stillbirths, infertility, and poor neonatal pigs. Culture, molecular technique, and serology are among the laboratory tests used to diagnose leptospirosis. Tetracyclines, dihydrostreptomycin, streptomycin, doxycycline, and erythromycin are examples of antibiotics that can be used to treat the condition. Vaccination, water sanitation, rodent control, and farm hygiene are all leptospirosis control measures.

Assessment of Reliability of Quality Control of Building Materials | Chapter 5 | New Approaches in Engineering Research Vol. 1

 The purpose of this project is to assess the quality control of construction materials while taking measurement error, the status of the technical process of product manufacturing, control completeness, and quality indicator variability into account. The statistical instability of the manufacturing process is the result of data on the influence of a measurement error on the probability of decision-making about production acceptance. Accepting a batch of bricks while accounting for measurement error in an unstable production process is demonstrated using the example of brick manufacturing. It is possible to improve product quality control dependability. The results of calculating the reliability of quality control of dry building mixes based on regulatory document requirements are provided. The control reliability block diagram is taken into account. It is demonstrated that the normative security of the quality of dry construction mixtures is 0.9447957, implying a defect probability of 5.52 percent. The application of the six sigma methodology is suggested to ensure a higher level of dry building mixtures quality. The information on evaluating the representativeness of the sample in determining the quality of construction materials is provided. The difference between the number of samples specified in the normative standards for test methods and the computed data is demonstrated, taking into account the values for standard confidence probabilities, supplier and consumer risk. The methodology of quality control of building materials is considered with the indicator of control completeness in mind.

Review on the Actively-Controlled Colloidal Dampers and Investigations on a Colloidal Damper Rendered Controllable under the Variable Magnetic Field Generated by Moving Permanent Magnets| Chapter 10 | Newest Updates in Physical Science Research Vol. 7

 Following a study of the operating principle of a colloidal damper rendered controllable (CDRC), this Chapter presents a review of different types of controlling devices and their sensitivity. The controllability of a new form of colloidal absorber, rendered controllable under varying magnetic fields, is then experimentally tested. This absorber is made up of a water-based ferrofluid (FERROTEC MSG-W10) and a liquid-repellent nanoporous solid body made up of gamma alumina and/or silica gel particles. Permanent neodymium annular magnets are positioned either on the piston head (axial magnetic field) or on the exterior surface of the cylinder to control the dynamic properties (radial magnetic field). The quantity of the displaced liquid by the magnets through the damper's filter and through the nanoporous solid body was estimated after flow visualisations inside a transparent model damper were done. The fluctuation of the magnetic flux density at the magnet surface with the magnet's height and versus the target distance was measured experimentally. Review on the Actively-Controlled Colloidal Dampers and Investigations on a Colloidal Damper Rendered Controllable under the Variable Magnetic Field Generated by Moving Permanent Magnets| Chapter 10 | Newest Updates in Physical Science Research Vol. 7

 Following a study of the operating principle of a colloidal damper rendered controllable (CDRC), this Chapter presents a review of different types of controlling devices and their sensitivity. The controllability of a new form of colloidal absorber, rendered controllable under varying magnetic fields, is then experimentally tested. This absorber is made up of a water-based ferrofluid (FERROTEC MSG-W10) and a liquid-repellent nanoporous solid body made up of gamma alumina and/or silica gel particles. Permanent neodymium annular magnets are positioned either on the piston head (axial magnetic field) or on the exterior surface of the cylinder to control the dynamic properties (radial magnetic field). The quantity of the displaced liquid by the magnets through the damper's filter and through the nanoporous solid body was estimated after flow visualisations inside a transparent model damper were done. The fluctuation of the magnetic flux density at the magnet surface with the magnet's height and versus the target distance was measured experimentally. Mathematical Modeling and Optimal Control of Sintering Processes in Rotary Tubular Kilns | Chapter 7 | Recent Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 7

 Within a rotary tubular kiln and in the lining of the oven, we consider methods for modelling the temperature fields. These models are used to build a control system that supports the technical parameters required and reduces heat loss to the environment through the kiln body. The application of a one-dimensional model to these processes is verified by two-dimensional modelling of the processes within the kiln. Using the ANSYS Fluent software kit, a simulation method for choosing a new design for the thermal insulation components, ensuring the reduction of heat loss to the atmosphere and performing the necessary thermal processing is implemented. It proposes a new type of insulation feature that reduces the heat loss from the kiln to the atmosphere and reduces the temperature of the kiln's outer surface. A system is built for monitoring the condition of the lining using a thermal imager and a control system that ensures the lining quality without stopping the operation of the kiln. The developed mathematical model of petroleum coke calcination for enhanced coke production describes chemical transformations with adequate adequacy through weight loss of the charge in the selected rotary tubular kiln. It can be used with the use of nonlinear mathematical methods of programming for optimising an industrial operation.

Scientific Elaboration of Evidence-based Focused Approach for Fulfillment of Aims: Experiences of an Asthma Clinic | Chapter 12 | Challenges in Disease and Health Research Vol. 2

 

In this chapter the effectiveness of asthma clinic providing comprehensive care based has been
evaluated on the best available scientific evidence. This study was conducted in a tertiary care
hospital having a devoted asthma clinic for the comprehensive management and data of cases
managed from July 2014 to June 2016. Outcome measures were treatment direction, asthma control,
emergency visits, and hospitalizations. 260 children were treated over a 2-year period. The effects of
focused approach with progressive expertise lead to statistically significant benefits over the two
successive years from July 2014 to June 2015 and July 2015 to June 2016. These were in: (i)
Treatment direction: Cases requiring stepping up of treatment decreased from 36.49% to 17.24%
(relative risk [RR]: 0.473 [95% confidence interval {CI}: 0.249-0.895]); p=0.01229, (ii) asthma control:
Cases with not well-controlled asthma decreased from 16.44% to 7.02% (RR 0.427: [95% CI: 0.199-
0.914]); p=0.045, (iii) emergency department visits decreased from 35.62% to 21.05% (RR 0.591:
[95% CI: 0.39-0.897]), p=0.00766, (iv) hospitalizations decreased from 16.44% to 5.26% (RR 0.32:
[95% CI: 0.135-0.757]), p=0.00462. Establishing an asthma clinic and progressive expertise leads to
significant beneficial results.
