Noise Pollution in Palghar | Chapter 7 | Emerging Challenges in Environment and Earth Science Vol. 1

 The current project was completed during Maharashtra's Ganesh festival, which is a very popular festival. Lord Ganesh idols are placed in households as well as public areas. The celebration is marked by much pomp and splendour for the idols. Using a sound level metre, noise levels were measured at four distinct places in Palghar Tehsil, a far western suburb of Mumbai city, on a typical working day and the final day of the event. Noise pollution indicators were calculated, as well as Noise Climate. The central pollution control board's noise standards were surpassed on both days, with a considerable increase in noise levels on the final day at all sites. The category of safe zone for festive and non-festive days was mentioned on the Vaitarna website. On celebratory days, the Saphale site exhibited a low to moderate danger zone category at 4 pm, 5 pm, and 6 pm, whereas the rest of the time slots indicated a high risk zone category. The Boisar location showed a significant risk on a joyful day. The Saphale, Palghar, and Boisar sites indicated safe zones, safe to low risk zones, and safe to moderate zones on non-festive days, respectively. There is no agency in this area that monitors noise levels.

Noise Pollution Monitoring, Mapping and Health Impacts | Book Publisher International

Noise pollution has established itself as a high-ranking pollutant all across the world. Noise pollution has increased as a result of industrialisation, increased transportation, and other human activities. Noise pollution poses a serious threat to developing countries. People in India are less aware of noise pollution than they are of water and then air pollution. It has a poisonous effect on human health. Its effects on the population are mostly obvious after a long period of exposure. However, as compared to water and air pollution, the decay time of noise in the environment is quite short. The introduction to sound, noise and its monitoring techniques, human impact, and noise pollution control are all summarised in this book. The major goal is to raise public awareness about noise pollution and its harmful effects on those who are exposed to it. Many governments have revised noise regulations in attempt to reduce noise pollution, however these regulations are rarely enforced due to a lack of public knowledge. Chapter 1 outlined the various properties of sound, as well as their thorough definitions. As a result, in the next chapter, the characteristics of noise, as well as their sources of origination, are described so that people can learn about the causes of noise in the environment. In the third chapter, the measurement techniques and instruments needed for the research of noise pollution are also discussed in detail. In order to comprehend the influence on the environment, multiple noise rating systems and norms as set forth by various pollution boards have been provided. The impact of noise pollution on human health is discussed in Chapter 4. Finally, in the concluding chapter, the control of noise pollution at sources and by equipment has been summarised. This book provides a brief overview of noise pollution, including its properties, effects on humans, and mitigation measures. This is useful in raising public awareness of the excessive level of noise pollution in the environment.

Noise Mapping as a Tool to Assess the Noise Generated in the Past, in the Present and in the Future of a Large Latin American City | Chapter 8 | New Horizons in Education and Social Studies Vol. 10

 Via in situ measurements and sound mapping, this project aimed to investigate the environmental sound effect of road traffic noise on several roads in the northwest part of Curitiba. The following steps were taken to accomplish this: 1) defining the locations to be assessed, 2) gathering field data, 3) tabulating the data, 4) acoustic mapping, 5) evaluating past, current, and future scenarios, and 6) definitive assessment The aim of this research is to evaluate ambient noise on major thoroughfares that transport vehicles from one end of the city to the other. With a huge flow of vehicles and people, the roads pass through five large commercial and residential districts. 22 samples were taken in various locations to characterise the noise pollution in the evaluated stretches. Sound measurements were taken in accordance with the NBR 10151/2000 standard's guidelines. The acoustic maps were created using the Predictor 8.11 sound analysis programme. A reference scenario was evaluated to reflect the current "acoustic panorama." To assess noise in the chosen areas, three hypothetical and distinct scenarios were developed. In scenario 1, it was hypothesised that the number of vehicles will be decreased by half relative to the current situation. In scenario 2, it was hypothesised that the number of vehicles will be decreased by 75% relative to the current situation. Scenario 3 simulates noise in vulnerable areas over a 20-year period, assuming a 100% rise in the number of vehicles. The findings suggest that the acoustic characteristics of these stretches indicate the presence of ambient noise pollution. The situation with a 50% decrease in the number of vehicles shows that the steps taken were insufficient to reduce sound levels significantly. The scenario with a 75% reduction in vehicle flow demonstrates that the implemented measure will be significant in reducing sound levels within the legal limits. Furthermore, in the hypothetical case, it is possible to demonstrate that the flow will be highly saturated in 20 years, resulting in a substantial rise in sound levels and, as a result, an increase in ambient noise emissions. As a result, it is clear that taking only one control action is insufficient to solve the issue. To effectively combat noise, a medium and long-term strategy with many measures that work together is needed.
