Association between Depression and Diabetes: A Literature Review | Chapter 16 | Current Overview on Disease and Health Research Vol. 1

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a serious health issue in both industrialised and developing nations. Diabetes and depression are two significant health conditions that have an inverse relationship. Studies suggest a substantial link between depression and diabetes. The mortality and morbidity rates can occasionally rise when diabetes and depression coexist. The quality of life can be enhanced by early detection and effective treatment of depression.

Conclusion: There is a bidirectional relationship between diabetes and depression. On health and economic consequences, both have a significant influence. Glycemic control improvement is connected with improvement in depression score. The outcomes of diabetes and depression are improved by raising knowledge of these disorders and spotting them early, which enhances overall health and quality of life.
