The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and
the global building industry both depend on environmental sustainability.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the superiority of modular over
cast-in-place construction, which can increase a building's sustainability.
However, there have been several roadblocks in the actual creation of modular
structures, particularly in underdeveloped nations. The key obstacles to
modular building are covered in this essay. An in-depth analysis of the main
barriers in local building sectors is provided by numerous past research on the
challenges to the development of modular structures. The first five
interconnected problems are: greater entry costs; a lack of work experience; a
reliance on traditional building methods; difficulty in managing stakeholders;
and limited government assistance. To bolster the study's findings and identify
potential obstacles, more research on the cultural resistance is required. The
study's conclusions could be used to promote modular construction locally,
thereby enhancing environmental sustainability significantly.
