Estimating Ecological Status of Kalaus River in the Stavropolskii Region, Russia| Chapter 9 | Emerging Challenges in Environment and Earth Science Vol. 4

The study's objective is to evaluate how the usage of water resources and contemporary global concerns have affected the ecological health of the Klaus River and the need for water protection measures. A significant source of water in Russia's Stavropolskii region is the Kalaus River. Water loss, depletion, and deterioration have been brought on by human use of water. The natural river flow is fully outweighed by water shortages as a result. In terms of quality, the water is categorised as "extremely unclean." The main factor contaminating river water is diffuse runoff from agricultural fields. Estimates for the environmental river flow and the efficacy of water protection measures are given in this study. It takes into account how land use affects river water flow volume and quality as well as how global climate change affects water scarcity. Conserving the volume of ecologically friendly flow without decreasing it is important to improve the river's ecological state to "satisfactory." Integrated water protection measures are necessary to raise the water quality to "moderately contaminated."
