In rare instances of Crohn's disease, dietary modifications have produced what biologics and steroids haven't yet shown to be possible: long-lasting remissions or cures. The quantitative availability of vitamins, minerals, and certain amino acids that are necessary for the immune system to operate at its best are compromised in Crohn's disease because to the changes in gastrointestinal structure and function that are brought on by the disease. The hypotheses put forth are that 1) clinical amelioration remissions brought on by dietary manipulation result from limiting MAP antigen/cytokine interactions at the sites of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis mucosal attachment, and ultimately 2) from dietary restoration and enhancement of host cellular immunity, leading to the destruction of the MAP-template that fuels the dysfunctional pro-inflammatory immune response. It looks at the connection between nutrition and biologics.
