Thermal Expansion of a Sub-Micrometer Thin Film Detected by Fiber Optics| Chapter 1 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol.7

Thinner structures have an impact on the structural and mechanical properties of thin films. The goal of this research is to provide a simple and low-cost technique for investigating thermal expansion in a thin film with a thickness of less than a micrometre. The system in this paper is made up of two silica fibres, one of which is covered with a thin layer. They're in a symbiotic relationship. A light source is on one end of the input fibre, and an optoelectronic detector is on the other. The spacing between the fibres grows as the film expands thermally. The amount of power exchanged between the fibres changes as a result, as does the amount of power carried by the input fibre. The thermal expansion is observed as a result of the change in photocurrent. The system was discovered to be small, sensitive, and capable of detecting the presence of ther
