Study about Toxicity of Mentha x piperita L. | Chapter 3 | New Innovations in Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol.8

While Mentha x piperita L. is a common herb used to make tisanes in northern Portugal, there is little information on its potential toxicity. The purpose of this study was to see how hazardous the aqueous extract was to Tetrahymena pyriformis' physiology, morphology, and biochemistry. Mint extract has a dose-dependent effect on generation time and growth. It was also discovered that the morphometric characteristics of T. pyriformis cells were changed. Mint extracts demonstrated a dose-dependent effect in the MTT experiment. Mentha x piperita L leaves extract should only be used with caution.
