Surfactants: Role in Pharmaceutical Formulation | Chapter 1 | Challenges and Advances in Pharmaceutical Research Vol.1

Surfactants are substances that lower a liquid's Surface tension, allowing it to spread more easily, as well as the Interfacial tension between two liquids or a liquid and a solid. Surfactants are naturally amphiphilic. Both hydrophilic and lipophilic characteristics are present. Surfactants are used to suspend immiscible liquids or solids in water or another liquid as foaming agents, emulsifiers, and dispersants. The current research examines appropriate surfactants in various pharmacological dosage forms, as well as their benefits and drawbacks. The article also discusses the compatibility of surfactants in various formulations as well as their use.
