Determination of Genetic Parameters and Inbreeding Depression of Half-Sib and Selfing Families to Developed as Baby Corn Variety | Chapter 06 | Current Topics in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 6

The goal of this research was to examine the S 1 and HS families in order to generate a baby corn variety. Baby corn is a type of vegetable with a high nutritional content that may be eaten fresh or canned, but it is not available in Indonesia. From May to December 2016, eight open pollinated varieties (So) and their inbreeding families (HS and S 1) were used in this study at Bogor Agricultural University's Cikarawang experimental station. On baby corn attributes, there were significant variances between genotypes. In all infant corn traits except ear diameter, the mean of inbreeding families was lower than their S 0. Selfing households had the highest percentage of marketable baby corn at 37.56 percent. S 1 families had more inbreeding depression than HS families. Number of ear per plant had the largest inbreeding depression, at 20.25 percent for HS and 25.52 percent for S 1. In each S 1 genotype, estimations of genetic influences (additive and dominant) for baby corn attributes were unique. For all qualities in S 1 families, the gene action was primarily additive. Selfing genotypes from Golden, Hawaii, Baruna, Lokal madura, and Mutiara should be developed as open pollinated varieties, whereas selfing genotypes from Laksmi, Genjah melati, and Srikandi kuning should be developed as hybrid varieties.
