Heterocyclic compounds have grown in importance in recent years, and chemists have been paying close attention to them due to their pharmacological properties. The nitrogen atoms in positions 1 and 3 are found in imidazole, a five-membered heterocycle. Because it is a derivative of imidazole, the imidazol-5-one nucleus has piqued researchers' curiosity, and it has been found in the composition of a variety of biologically active chemicals. The goal of this paper is to summarise previous research on the production and pharmacological effects of imidazol-5-one derivatives. As a result, the imidazol-5-one ring is frequently generated via cyclization of the 3-aryl-2-alkanoylamidoacrylohydrazides or an oxazol-5-one ring. Antimicrobial action (antibacterial, antifungal), anti-inflammatory activity, analgesic activity, cytotoxic activity, anthelmintic activity, and antioxidant activity have all been documented for compounds containing the imidazol-5-one heterocycle.
