N'-(substituted benzylidene)- 1-benzofuran-2-carbohydrazide (2a-f) and 5-(5-substituted-1-benzofuran-2-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols (3a-c) were obtained by reacting substituted benzofuran-2-carbohydrazide (1) with different aromatic substituted aldehydes and carbon disulph The IR, 1H NMR, and mass spectra of the produced compounds were used to characterise them. All of the compounds were tested for antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity in vitro using the DPPH method and the cup-plate diffusion method, respectively. 2a, 2d, 3b, and 3c exhibit modest antibacterial action, while 2c, 3a, and 3b have significant radical scavenging activity. Because of the biological importance of this scaffold, multiple research groups have begun to investigate various strategies for synthesis and structural modification of benzofuran derivatives.
