Availability and Utilization of ICT Facilities for Enhancing University Campus Security in South-South, Nigeria: A Recent Study | Chapter 13 | Recent Recent Advances in Mathematical Research and Computer Science Vol. 8

This study looked on the availability and use of ICT facilities for the goal of improving university campus security in Nigeria's south-central region. The study was led by two research objectives, and one null hypothesis was tested at the.05 level of significance. The study used a descriptive survey research design. A total of 1,520 security professionals from 12 government-owned universities in South-South Nigeria were included in the study. 456 security officers were sampled using the proportional stratified sampling technique. The information was gathered using a "Checklist on Availability of ICT Facilities for Enhancing University Campus Security (CAICTFEUCS)" and a five-point grading scale questionnaire called "Utilization of ICT Facilities for Enhancing University Campus Security (UICTFEUCS)." The instruments were independently evaluated by three experts. The Cronbach Alpha technique was used to determine the instrument's dependability, and reliability values of.75 and.78 were found for the two devices, with an overall reliability coefficient of.77. 433 copies, or roughly 96 percent, of the 456 copies of the instrument given to the respondents were successfully retrieved and used for data analysis. Data for research question 1 was analysed using frequency counts and percentages, whereas data for research question 2 was analysed using mean and standard deviation. The null hypothesis was tested using the Z-test statistic at the.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that ICT facilities are insufficiently available in South-South Nigeria to improve university campus security. In South-South Nigeria, the survey also discovered that there is no significant difference in the mean ratings of respondents from federal and state institutions on the extent to which ICT facilities are used by university campus security officers. According to the study, the availability and use of ICT facilities for improving university campus security in South-South Nigeria was insufficient to tackle security concerns in the university system. The Nigerian government and university officials should train campus security staff on how to use current ICT capabilities, according to the results and conclusions. This is to ensure that they are adequately qualified and prepared to use ICT facilities to combat a variety of campus-related crimes, thereby safeguarding the lives and property of the university community.
